Youth Will Always Win is a two-person show with Paris-based painter Tess Mallavergne. This body of work explores the relationship between the female figure, objects, fabric, and skin. The way a figure can wear an object, and the way an object, in turn, can be presented through the figure. I crop these scenes aggressively, leaving out as much as I show, because these were private moments before they became paintings, and I want that sense of intimacy, and distance, to carry through. We didn’t set out to make work about youth, but as artists, also as two young women in their early 20s, painting from our own lives, it’s simply there, carried through by who we are and what we choose to look at.
