Soft Focus is a group exhibition with 4 artists, built around the idea that the body, looked at closely, becomes an archive of involuntary gestures, a repository of tensions, habits, and fears. The exhibition is about proximity as a method, slowing the viewer’s gaze to catch the ordinary before it’s explained: a staircase, a hand in hair, a ring touched absentmindedly. My paintings work within this at an almost intimate scale, focusing on moments when the body acts on its own, automatic, nearly invisible gestures that reveal an inner tension even before it’s consciously perceived.
